Our purpose
Speculative Futures Helsinki is a Helsinki-based community for exploring alternative futures. The community is a platform for learning design futuring, enhancing futures literacy, and exploring alternative narratives of the future. Our community is diverse and welcoming, organically taking the size and shape of its participant-creators.
The activities are rooted in the local context, however, the community is part of a global network of Design Futures Initiative, initially founded in San Francisco in 2015. The global network consists of over 70 chapters.

Our mission
We challenge the status quo through exploration, imagination, collaboration and reflection. We take the initiative in rethinking our societal and personal futures with the help of new methodologies that combine futures and design.

Learn Together
The community is set to share ideas, thoughts, experiences and practices. We aim to learn from each other and leverage our knowledge on futurology, innovation, design fiction, critical design, speculative design, transition design and foresight.
Democratize Futures Thinking
We should all have the basic skills to consider our own future, but also a voice, a chance to impact future discourse, be it in the community or society we live in. There are freely available tools that can spark futures thinking (for example by Sitra) but what we aim for, is to make futures thinking easily approachable and bring it into the local context. Act
On top of learning and spreading knowledge, there is also a call on action. This can mean collaborations or projects built from scratch, expressing alternative visions as initiatives for change.
